Ah! the romance of it all, who could imagine that high in the Derbyshire hills you would uncover a Museum dedicated solely to the golden era of the Tramcar - such a place is Crich.

Here in this small hill village, vintage Tramcars from the world over have been lovingly restored and are on display in a fascinating museum which occupies a disused quarry. This unique display is further enhanced by a period setting comprising of the reconstructed facade of Derby's Georgian Assembly Rooms and a collection of Victorian Street furniture.

This wonderful museum is alive with memories of the past - close your eyes and you can easily imagine the bright young things of the day, all clad in their Sunday best, clambering up the steps to reach a prized seat atop of the open topped Tramcar, to enjoy a Sunday afternoon ride! Such was the age of Romance.

High though this little village is, higher still is Crich Stand, a 950ft high hill crowned by a lofty monument to the Sherwood Forresters and Derby regiment.

Crich is within easy reach of the majestic scenery of the Peak District. Pleasant countryside surrounds this little village and close-by you have the attractions of Cromford Mill, Riber Castle and there is a Nature Reserve at Fritchley. As one would expect, this pretty area has a host of quaint shops, inns and public houses. Should you prefer to picnic, then you should certainly explore the rural locations where you will discover some very peaceful area in which and enjoy an Al fresco lunch. Crich is also famous for being the village of Cardale in the hit british TV show, Peak Practice.
