About Matlock

Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire is situated on the edge of the impressibly beautiful Peak District National Park it is in a high area of gritstone moors and ridges

A century or so ago visitors flocked to Matlock Baths to ejoy the benefit of the medicinal springs. This practice has long since declined and today millions of tourists visit this vibrant area not just for it's beauty but for a variety of reasons - e.g. The four famous caverns, Speedwells which is renowned for flooded passages and can only be explored by boat, Blue John mine and cavern where the rare semi-precious stone, Blue John is to be found, Treak Cliff and perhaps the most spectacular of all - Peak Cavern.

A major attraction in this area is the Heights of Abraham with it's cable cars, caverns, maze and illuminated water gardens. Also
not to be missed is the Peak District Mining Museum and Temple Mine.

In the centre of the Peak District is the charming small town of Bakewell, long famous for a tasty pudding known as Bakewell Tart. Each Monday this friendly little town plays host to a lively livestock and street market which is well attended by visitors and locals alike.
