Fernworthy Stone Circles are set against the majestic backdrop of some of Dartmoor's highest peaks, in a beautiful forest spot amidst some 1,400 acres of stunning woodland scenery. A reservoir lies close-by, man made but extremely picturesque, and quite in keeping with the natural charm and beauty of the area. The reservoir is fed by crystal clear streams tumbling from the high granite peaks. While further on into the forest is a wonderland of wild flowers and herbs. Not much disturbs the peace of this lovely spot, save for the call of birds. It is here you can see a group of pre-historic hut circles. These are not as grand as those to be seen at Stonehenge, but they are certainly worth seeing. Some say that these were inhabited around 4,000 years ago by the Beaker people.
This is a pleasant place to visit en-route to see Grey Wethers Stone Circles.
