About Hope

Despite having a picturesque little bay known as Hope Cove which has a picturesque harbour at its northern end, what really stuns all who visit is the sight of waves lashing against the scattered rocks flanking the cove. Here, tumbling over huge rocks the turbulent ocean has lent inspiration to many aspiring artists, for as the storm clouds gather above casting differing shades of light upon the sea, the view becomes singularly dramatic.

This is an area of calm rural charm where the pace of life is un-hurried. The region is known for its quaint thatched cottages, sandy beaches and for its flora and fauna. It is just a short distance from the commanding viewpoints of Bolt Tail and Bolt Head, and if you wish to investigate a little further - why not visit the Nature Reserve at Slapton Ley. This is the largest natural freshwater lake in England's South West and is home to hundreds of important species.

The pretty sailing town of Salcombe is within easy reach, this has an attractive harbour, and is fun to explore with its wealth of quaint streets and shops.

Backing Hope Cove is a patchwork of rural villages and winding paths leading to the pretty creeks and inlets along the Kingsbridge Estuary. From sandy Hope Cove there is the opportunity to launch your own boat off the open sands, the sport of diving is popular, and fishing can be enjoyed either from a boat, breakwater or rocks. Horse riding and golf add to the local attractions, and there are plenty of pubs in which to while away a pleasant evening.

Little shops can be found in out of the way places, but Kingsbridge has an assortment of shops, inns, cafes and restaurants. It also has a well equipped new leisure centre with indoor swimming pool.
