About Kingsbridge

With roots going back to the 13th-century it is not surprising that this pleasant little town is known as the 'capital of the South Hams. Many picturesque properties are built around the banks of the tidal waters of the estuary which looks at its best when the sea rises covering the mudbanks, causing small craft to ride at anchor in their moorings.

Long ago, Kingsbridge was a thriving port, these days it is an interesting holiday destination providing year long excitement for boating enthusiasts and a wealth sandy beaches and lovely coves for those who simply wish to laze beside the sea. The town is surrounded by other historical towns and villages, some a short car journey away and some, easily reached on foot. Hidden along the estuaries lonely creeks there are welcoming, remote waterside inns. Ancient hostelries can also be found in the giant patchwork of fields forming the beautiful agricultural landscape surrounding Kingsbridge that is so much a feature of glorious Devon. Superb walks draw you to the water, or into, splendid open countryside.

The town offers plentiful supply of shops. Boats, surfboards and canoes can be hired, as can horses from a nearby riding school. There is a ferry which carries visitors to Salcombe and there are attractions to suit all the family. The area offers excellent hotel accommodation as well as picturesque, carefully sited caravan parks.

With its mild climate, year round activities, Kingsbridge is an excellent choice for a family holiday or an ideal base from which to explore the remote shores of Devon.
