This is the remains of the Barbican area of Okehampton Castle. Not a great deal of the original, even the tree looks past it's best.

Built by the Normans in the Valley of the River Okement the Castle is shown from the grassed area by the side of the River. One of the prominent families to reside here were the Courtenay family.
