Pictures of Shaldon

a Picturesque Village in the county of Devon

About Shaldon

This pleasant, popular sailing resort lies in a sheltered position at the mouth of the River Teign. It is a lovely place that has all the hallmarks of a small resort fishing village, including two glowing sandy beaches, a well-lit smugglers tunnel running over 100ft to a picturesque cove and traditional picture postcard stone cottages.

Away from the beautiful coast, there is a patchwork of sprawling fresh green fields interspersed with old farmhouses and meadows where cattle graze contentedly. A wooded headland peering down on the Teign offers woodland walks, wildlife and rare and beautiful plants. Shaldon Wildlife Trust has a unique collection of the World's most endangered species and is well worth a visit.

River trips take you up the Teign estuary, a ferry takes you to pretty Teignmouth and for those looking for more energetic sport there are sea fishing trips. Shaldon hosts a regatta in August and a water carnival, there is a good golf course and 1785 day is celebrated every Wednesday from May to September.

With no shortage of things to do, good hotels, shops and pubs, Shaldon makes an ideal place for a family holiday or an excellent base for exploring this exceptional part of Devon.

Places to visit include: Teignmouth Pier, Paignton Zoo, Paignton to Dartmouth Heritage Rail Line, Exeter Cathedral and Torquay.
