Woodbury Common is an area of outstanding beauty and has a wealth of scenery to astound. It is also a remarkable opportunity to take lovely photographs. This clump of trees hiding the sun is a good example (not necessary wonderful in this case). Image cannot be loaded

Woodbury Castle is an Iron Age hillfort near the village of Woodbury in Devon, some eight miles southeast of the city of Exeter.
The fort is situated on a high point of Woodbury Common, at approximately 185 metres (607 ft) above sea level, in a commanding position with views up and down the Exe Estuary and across Lyme Bay in both directions. The structure is a prehistoric military type of earthwork.

I watched this treecreeper run up the tree trunk, dive into a hole, then fly out again.
Its beak was full of grubs when it entered the hole but not when it flew off. Image cannot be loaded

Woodbury's church is dedicated to Saint Swithun and is early 15th century (consecrated in 1409): the Perpendicular style is mixed with elements of the older Decorated. Interesting features include the woodwork of the screen, the 15th-century font, Elizabethan altar rails, Jacobean pulpit, and an early 17th-century monument to a man and his wife. The Woodbury Common is owned by Clinton Devon Estates, but there are lots of paths that criss-cross the area enabling access to the splendid views around. From the high points the sea and coastline can be seen. Geologically the area is called the pebbled heath. Image cannot be loaded
