A large estate in East Sussex created by Lord Sheffield in 1769 who employed Capability Brown to design the estate gardens. In 1876 the Lewes and East Grinstead Railway was formed in 1876 to provide the Sheffield family and their guests with transport to and from the estate. Both Gardens and Railway have both become popular attractions to visit in East Sussex.
