Old Lighthouse

This lighthouse, restored in 1996, made of chalk and the oldest lighthouse in the country, was built in 1674 King Charles gave permission for it to be built, but it is not known if it was ever used. The idea was to have a fire on the top of the tower of brushwood or coal.

lovely picture, but sorry, it is NOT the oldest lighthouse in the country. That title goes to the one in the grounds of Dover Castle in Kent - built in AD90 by order of the Emperor Caligula
