About Danbury

Picturesque English village of great charm. Surrounded almost entirely by open countryside Danbury has immense appeal for the tourist, it is crammed with a delightful mixture of attractive properties, some forming a pretty back-drop for a lovely village pond shaded by lofty green trees.

Danbury was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book, it has a long, well documented history of which the village is justifiably proud. The beautiful historic church dedicated to St.John the Baptist, has been central to the life of the village for centuries. Worthy of a visit, this ancient place of worship sits securely in a peaceful churchyard standing guard over old graves and tombstones. Inside there are many treasures to be seen including memorials and brasses.

There is a nearby country park with a wealth of interesting wildlife - this is a most enjoyable place to wander around, it has lakes, woods, flora and fauna and is ideal for a family day out. Heather, Gorse and Bracken covered Danbury Common has survived since medieval times. Having remained almost unchanged, this wilderness area offers a home to a rich variety of wildlife and is the perfect place to explore for wild flowers, grasses and rare plants.

With plenty of inns and pleasant village shops this is a lovely region to tour and relax in. It's close proximity to the coast and nearby Chelmsford make Danbury a favourite summer village for either a short or long visit.

Places of interest include: Lingwood Common, Maldon at the head of The Blackwater, Danbury Common, Danbury Park, Chelmsford and Essex Museum, enjoy a trip along the Blackwater Estuary, or take a stroll round the church of St.John the Baptist.
