About Morden Hall Park

Morden Hall Park is a flourishing historic site with a wealth of wildlife habitats amongst its quiet watermeadows, wetlands and waterways. It is an amazing place set in the heart of London's suburbia, the perfect location for gentle walks amongst beautiful surroundings away from life's pressures.

Here you can enjoy the beauty of a fragrant rose garden showing numerous colourful blooms, or you can wander around the craft shop were there is always something fresh and new to discover. There is a cafe where you can enjoy a pot of tea while resting weary feet, and in the garden centre you are sure to find something special either to give as a present or to plant in your own garden. Another enjoyable visit is to the Old Snuff Mill Environmental Centre.

The park has a fascinating history, Morden Hall was once the property of Westminster Abbey, it was built in 1770 and has survived a variety of uses. It was the former home of Gilliat Hatfield who spent more time living in Morden Cottage, he is said to have found the intimacy of the cottage more suited to his solitary life as a bachelor. He was a keen huntsman and fisherman, thus the estate reflects his personality and taste. Many of the things to be seen around the land, including bridges, ornamental weather vanes, garden statutory and buildings can all be attributed to Gilliat Hatfield. When he died in 1941 he left almost all the estate to the National Trust who continue to care for and administer Morden Hall Park estate so that we may continue to enjoy it today.
