Viewed from Fairmead, outside the house where I grew up. The office block and tower was designed by Richard Seifert and opened in 1964. It was built on the site of an old Odeon cinema which stood on the corner of the Broadway and the A3. The tower is 80.8 metres high with 22 floors. The ground floor was originally inhabited by Fine Fare, one of first supermarkets in the area, and now by Marks & Spencer. The remaining floors were originally occupied by commercial and government offices, but the north wing has recently been re-opened as a Travelodge hotel.
