Dining Hall

Originally the Inner Hall of the monastic gatehouse, the Dining Hall was central to country house entertainment in the 18th and 19th centuries. Menu books surviving in the Beaulieu archives from this period reveal what the Montagu family were eating at different times of the year. The Dining Hall is still used by the Montagu family on special occasions, at Christmas and for birthdays. The huge table came from Ditton Park, a former Montagu property near Datchet in Buckinghamshire. It is made of a single elm tree and is 16 feet long. It originally stood in the servants' hall at Ditton Park and was brought to Beaulieu when Ditton was sold to the Admiralty during WWI.
