Moniter M33 1915, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire

The Moniter M33 was one of shallow built ships orderderd by Winston Churchill first lord of the admiralty and Lord Jackie Fisher first sea lord, the contract was given to Harland and Wolff and was ordered on 15 March, launched on 22 May, and completed on the 24 of June. The commander was Q B Preston-Thomas and after active service she was paid off in mudros on 10 Jan 1919, after being overhauled she sailed on active service on the 12 May {the commander was Lt/Cmdr K Mitchell} to Murmansk where she was slightly damaged in sept 1919 and returned to England. She was bought by Hampshire County Council in 1990 and is now being returned to her original first world war appearence.
