PS Waverley is the last sea going passenger Paddle Steamer in the world. She regularly takes trips around the UK and here she is tied up at Southampton. At the moment though she is being given new boilers and if all goes well she may be fit again in 2020.

While in Southampton, take a walk by the ferry. Opposite you will find this Monument, which bears closer inspection The Monument to the Mayflower and her passengers that sailed off to America, via Plymouth.

This is a picture of the former Liberal Prime minister Lord Palmerston born 1784 died 1865, who had a long and colourful history. Recently the statue to the great man has undergone a clean up. He has associations with the South and the Isle of Wight where Queen Victoria was ensconced. The statue stands in the Park named after him; Palmerstone Park Southampton. Daphne Grant
