This sculpture was commissioned by the Elgar in Hereford Group, who held a National competition selecting Jemma Pearson.
The portrait depicts Elgar as the composer finding inspiration from the countryside of Herefordshire and Worcestershire and the Malvern hills, which he loved to explore on his Sunbeam bicycle - nicknamed "Mr Phoebus". These journeys were a great creative release for him, colouring his music and giving it that special Englishness for which he is so renowned and loved.
