About Parkhurst

For decades Parkhurst has been associated with it's daunting prison which casts a dark shadow on fair horizons. It does however have a lighter side in the ancient forest, covering over 1000 beautiful acres. Waymarked walks take you through woodlands inhabited by Red Squirrels and it is said that large wild cat's have been seen roaming in the dense hinterland.

There are now three prisons in Parkhurst and housing for prison staff. None-the-less, it is well worth visiting, the forest is a joyous place with much to interest all the family.
