About St Helens

Idyllic resort village with attractive houses set around a large village green which in the summer months is well used by the local cricket team.

This is an old village with a history stretching back to the 1300's and beyond. At that time it was a port of considerable importance but this declined with the expansion of Cowes which lay closer to the mainland. It is thought that a church was first built here by monks in the 12th-century. Over the centuries, rising seas caused the church to become unsafe and save for it's ruined tower, nothing else is left. A new church was built further inland early in the 18th-century.

St.Helen's pretty harbour is usually crammed with a medley of boats, there is a quiet sheltered beach, delightful walks through pleasant open countryside lead from the coast to the village.
