About Lynsted

A pretty Kentish village located a few miles from the coast. It is a charming, restful place in what is known as cherry-orchard country, and although the cherries are still here, arable farming has taken over much of the land. Hop and Apple orchards dominate part of the landscape.

In the pretty lanes and streets you can see a rich variety of architecture. In Ludgate Lane there are handsome timber-frame Tudor buildings, and the Church of St.Peter and St.Paul, with its substantial tower and short spire dates back to the 15th-century. Its peaceful, lawned churchyard shows graves from centuries past. Within the church there are 17th-century monuments by the early English sculptor, Epiphanius Evesham. This church is a very calm, spiritual place and is well worth seeing.

Parts of the village are designated conservation areas, here you can see well cared for properties from the 18th-century, and the school is housed in a beautiful building from Victorian times. The many fine manor houses in the area include Lynsted Court, Lynsted Park and Bogle House. The Black Lion is a picturesque Jacobean tavern that should not be missed! The shops are few but they are friendly, so too, are the other local public houses.

In nearby Doddington there are pretty cottages. This whole area is pleasant, relaxed and friendly, it is well worth more than a second glance and would make an ideal base to tarry whilst exploring the lovely Kentish countryside and coast.
