A picture of Scotney Castle

Scotney Castle, Lamberhurst, Kent, seen here from across the moat, was built towards the end of the 14th century but is more of a fortified house than a true castle. All that remains of this 14th century building is the massive round south tower, with its projecting parapet at roof level, and a ruined gatehouse. A brick Elizabethan range adjoining the tower is all that survives of the 16th-century additions whilst some jagged walls with gaping windows mark a substantial 17th-century wing. The property now belongs to the National Trust.
