A picture of Stodmarsh

Stodmarsh, Kent. near Canterbury. The name is a corruption of stud marsh. The Augustinian monks grazed horses here in Mediaeval times. The area flooded to marsh in C19th when coal mining caused subsidence. Now an important nature reserve.
