Margaret Hilda Roberts (later Baroness Thatcher, first woman Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) won a scholarship to study at the Kestevan & Grantham Girl's School in Grantham. She became Head Girl in 1943. She then studied Chemistry at Sommerville College, Oxford and obtained her BSc degree. She became a research chemist and later a barrister before moving into politics. She eventually become leader of the conservative party and Prime Minister in 1979 serving three terms in office until 1990.
