A picture of Gainsborough Old Hall

Gainsborough Old Hall. This magnificent 15th-century manor house is considered to one of the best examples of its type in the country. It was built by Sir Thomas Burgh c1460 and is principally timber-framed with a brick tower in the north-east corner which affords a magnificent view of the town. The Great Hall, where both Richard III and Henry VIII banqueted, has a vast arched roof and its kitchens remain in near original condition. Henry VIII was introduced to his last wife, Katherine Parr, at the hall in 1540. She was the widow of Lord de Burgh's eldest son.
