A picture of Kirkby

This Conservation Area is the last surviving group of old buildings near Kirkby town centre. It focusses on St Chad's Church (listed), which is a prominent landmark and a powerful example of the work of the Victorian architects, Paleyand Austin. It has a lych gate, a cross, the ancient weeping stone of Kirkby and theruins of an ancient chapel. The Area also contains the red sandstone buildings and walls associated with the church, set in mature parkland and consisting of the vicarage and its stables and gate piers (listed), Sefton Cottage (listed) and StChad's Lodge.
