About Rainford

Rainford is a small village attractively set in open countryside between St. Helen's and Wigan. It is an old place, as is borne out by its inclusion in the Doomsday Book.

The village has a rich industrial past, which has included sand mining, for use in the glass factories of St. Helen's and it was once a popular manufacturing centre for clay smoking pipes.

One of the village's most attractive features is All Saints Church, which dates from 1878, this replaces an earlier church which stood on land close to the Golden Lion Pub. Its handsome clock-face tower can be seen as a landmark from most parts of the village.

Interestingly the village has a Silver Band, this is extremely popular at local festivities and has won many awards.

The village has several public houses, these include The Golden Lion, The Bottle and Glass, and The Eagle and Child, and all the other usual village amenities.
