Hale is not really in Liverpool as it now lies in Cheshire, but only a mile or so outside the city boundry. It is a good place for a walk along the banks of the Mersey. Famous also for the Childe Of Hale.

Fairy Glen

The Fairy Glen is in Sefton Park, Liverpool. It is a most tranquil place traditionally used since Victorian times by courting couples. It is said to be haunted by two lovers from those days, who return every 14th February. This was taken on a beautiful sunny spring morning (19th April 2010) almost deserted and all so very peaceful.

I'd gone to take pictures of a huge liner, the Ocean Princess and chose a part of the river front near to Wallasey Town Hall. All of a sudden the light went dull, casting a strange light on the river so I pulled my zoom back to take in the whole scene. 1/640th sec @ F5

This very rare example of an hexagonal clock tower, dating back to 1848, stands in Salisbury Dock, Liverpool. Taken 11.55 on 8th January 2009. At this time of the year the sun never really is overhead.

This is the entrance to St James's Mount, a tunnel hewn out of the rock and the floor is lined with blue slate to allow safe access to the cemetery by humans, horses and carts in earlier times. Many famous Liverpool people are resting there.

William Huskisson Memorial

Rather grand memorial to William Huskisson who was killed on 15th September 1830 the opening day of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway by the locomotive Rocket. The memorial stands in the St James's Mount cemetery. Designed by the architect John Foster Junior.

For many years the head office of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board prior to them moving to Seaforth. This is a truly splendid building both inside and out. Built in Portland Stone, being completed in 1907.

Fort Perch Rock was built as a coastal defence battery to protect the Port of Liverpool during the Napoleonic period. It is open throughout the year and features an Aviation and Archaeology Museum and a permanent exhibition about the German bomber raids over Merseyside during World War II.

This old pub stands very close to the studios in which the late soap opera Brookside was made. The cast could often be seen taking lunch there. The Chilwall Abbey is now also a hotel.

This splendid pub is named after the famous steam loco. Now very much as it was in 1915 when it was converted into one building. A tribute indeed to all those who, over the years have kept the pub character by careful restoration.
