About Binham

This gorgeous village is set in a peaceful valley inland from Stiffkey, it is renowned for the romantic ruins of a great Benedictine monastery, founded by the side of the Stiffkey River in 1090. Parts of the monastery survive as a magnificent, atmospheric church which has on occasions been filled with music performed by several noted artists including Benedict Cruft who performed Bach's cycle of violin works there over many years.

At the centre of the village there is a lovely village green where you can see picturesque Norfolk properties and a large medieval cross marking the spot where until 1950, the village held its annual fair. The Shaft and the plinth survive.

There is a pleasant village stores, and the Chequers Inn is noted for its hospitality. The Chequers is a beautiful 17th-century building, adorned with rich foliage, it serves excellent food, ales and wine, and was endorsed by Clarissa Dickson of the "Two Fat Ladies" cookery programme.

Tranquil villages do not come much better than Binham. The area offer opportunities for quiet walks to explore the surrounding countryside, or for those who wish to look outside of the village, there is the coastal town of Cromer, the Norfolk Shire Horse Centre, 17th-century Felbrigg Hall, and stunning Blickling Hall which was the home of Queen Anne.
