The ruins of Burgh Castle are in the care of English heritage, they consist of little more than the remains of impressive Roman walls belonging to a Roman fort of about AD 300. This was one of the Saxon shore camps built to keep out Saxon raiders.
A small Norman motte-and-bailey castle was built, but there is no longer any trace of this. None-the-less, the ruins are set in a spectacular Norfolk landscape and are well worth seeing.
