About Caister-on-Sea

Caister-on-Sea has a lovely expanse of sands backed by delightful grassy dunes. It has all the usual seaside facilities needed to ensure the whole family has a relaxing time with fun for the children.

The name of the resort comes from the Latin "castra" meaning fortress, there are substantial remains of a Roman town to be seen on the road leading towards Filby. There is little doubt that Caister has a long history, it was founded in the 2nd century AD and was one of the chief towns inhabited by the Iceni.

Caister Castle is a magnificent ruin of a once mighty fortress built by Sir John Fastolf in the 1430's, it can be found around two miles from the resort. This is interesting for many reasons, not least its connections with Shakespeare and a fascinating motor museum.
