a Seaside Town in the county of Norfolk

About Wells-next-the-Sea

This is an enchanting seaside resort with old houses, shops and pubs lining the maze of narrow streets leading to the quayside. The harbour has a long maritime history as a port, and home to its own fishing fleet. One of the joys of this pleasant town is to stroll along the harbour watching fishing boats land, and pleasure craft sailing by.

Wells is a lovely place, it has unspoilt beaches, nearby salt marshes where you can see a rich array of wildlife, and about a mile away there is a pretty creek.

In the town there are some interesting Victorian properties, with the beautiful Crown Hotel being a coaching inn from the 16th century, which in spite of refurbishment has fortunately retained much of its original character.

The countryside surrounding Wells is totally unspoilt, visitors can enjoy walks along quiet coastal paths, and occasionally you may come across a delightful mill house from the past which is converted to provide for modern day living.

There are excellent views of Blakeney Point, and at near-by Scolt Island you can fill many hours amongst a myriad of lovely bee orchid, samphire, sea lavender and reeds, some of which can also be found on the salt marshes close to Wells. On a sea trip to the National Nature Reserve at Blakeney Point it is often possible to see playful grey seals as well as a vast variety of birds.

Whether you come to Wells on a day trip or for a longer stay, you will enjoy its many pleasures and be totally impressed with its timeless charm.
