Thimbleby, St. Margaret's Church

Thimbleby is a small village just one mile from Horncastle, Lincolnshire. The village has many points of historic interest including a series of mud and stud cottages dating from the 16th Century, the old village pump dating from 1857 and St. Margaret’s Church, a grade II Victorian church designed by the prolific local architect James Fowler in 1879. This Victorian church, thought to be the third on the site, replaced an earlier Georgian building of 1744 which in turn replaced an earlier medieval structure. In 2010, the church faced closure due to unsafe stonework and electrical wiring and with thanks to the local community an enormous fundraising effort began to save the church. In 2016, the church received it’s first grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and in 2018 the rebuild of the tower and spire took place. This website will keep you up to date with all things Thimbleby and the restoration of the church, providing links to upcoming events and activities
