Temple of the Four Winds

The pavilion, situated at the southeast corner of the Ray Wood, was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in 1724. The cube-shaped building, with dome and porticos is partly modelled on Palladio's famous 16th century Villa Rotonda in Vicenza. The interiors were finally decorated in 1738 by Francesco Vassalli. The temple, with its fine views, was used as a place for refreshment and reading.
