Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

A Saxon stronghold of the 12th Century. This Castle is still lived in and visited by thousands yearly. It has been used as movie set many times. It is on the pilgrimage trail from Holy Island down to Jarrow and Rowlands Gill and Durham Cathedral all along the coast. Bamburgh holds the grave of Grace Darling. Heroin of Victorian times who risked her life with her father to save stricken sailors from a sinking ship. It’s a truly beautiful landscape filled to the brim with British History and delicate wildlife. It is near the Farne Islands where sea birds nest by the thousands and visitors can walk between the nests so close to the chicks you could touch them. If that were allowed, which it is not. A visit on the GladTidings I will never forget.
