About Brightwell-cum-Sotwell

This gorgeous little village set in a hollow beneath Whittington Clumps is revered as the home of Doctor Edward Bach, creator of the celebrated Bach Flower Remedies used in homeopathic treatments. Dr. Bach is buried in the local churchyard, and people flood here from all over the world to visit his former home Mount Vernon, and to see the place where he was laid to rest.

Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, is a picturesque place surrounded by peaceful agricultural lands. It comprises of narrow leafy lanes beside which are set enviable black and white timber-frame thatched cottages. Of further interest are the three churches in the area, these are St. Agatha's, St.James's where Dr. Bach is buries, and the tiny Free Church. The village also has a pleasant inn, The Red Lion, which was restored a couple of years ago following a fire.

This enchanting village is best explored on foot, it can be found between Didcot and Wallingford within easy reach of both the Thames and Ridgeway Paths.
