Water-Cress Beds at Ewelme

Ewelme was a major producer of water-cress for around a hundred years, but commercial production ceased in the 1980's because of the risk of contamination from the nearby road. The Ewelme Brook which feeds the water-cress beds rises at a chalk spring in the village. The water temperature is a constant 10 degrees C throughout the year, which favours the cultivation of the water-cress. Henry VIII is reputed to have bathed in the spring to benefit from its healing powers.

I wondered where we were going with this one until I opened the thumbnail. Very interesting read Edward. You can't beat a bit of fresh watercress.
