Much of St. James' Church is in the Decorated Gothic style. In the nave is a Norman carved doorway which dates from the 11th century. St. James' also has features from the 13th, 15th and 16th centuries. Outside the church is a medieval preaching cross.

The cottage just visible near the centre is an old lock keeper's cottage on the Oxford Canal at Somerton Deep Lock, and is the only occupied house that I know of with NO road or track to access it. The guy who lives there uses a little motor boat.

This scene I thought has a very old-fashioned or bygone look to it; the field is small, rough and marshy, by the river, and just a handful of bullocks - who seemed very pleased with themselves.

Somerton is a small village close to the River Cherwell and adjacent to the Oxford Canal and the Oxford to Banbury railway line, about 6 miles north-west of Bicester.
