The very pretty village of Wroxton with it's quaint duck pond where we started & finished a 4 mile walk today in glorious spring weather.

Set in the heart of this delightful thatched village, it dates from the 14th C with the tower rebuilt in the 18th. Lord North who was the Prime Minister of England at the time of the American Independance, is buried here.

The old Jacobean manor house in the village is now owned by Fairleigh Dickinson university of New Jersey & serves American Students. You are welcome to roam the grounds & lakes, but not the manor unfortunately.This is the top lake.. where lots of toads were spawning.

This unusual 17th century guide post gives directions (with carved hands) to Banbury, Chiping Norton (sic), London, and Stratford, and with various forms of sundial on each of the four sides.

Thatched ironstone cottages in Wroxton

Wroxton is an extremely attractive village of local dark honey-coloured ironstone cottages, many of them thatched and dating from the early 17th and 18th centuries. Close to the Abbey Gates and in Church and Silver Streets the properties are somewhat older. In the centre of the village is a small green with thatched cottages all round and a picture-postcard duck pond.

The imposing All Saints' Church in Wroxton is thought to be chiefly 14th and 15th century. It has traces of a medieval wall painting above the chancel screen. The tower dates from 1748.
