A picture of Oxford
Tom's Tower, Oxford.
In 1681 Christopher Wren the architect responsible for St Paul's Cathedral finished Wolsey's gatehouse and added a massive octagonal tower and cupola. In it was hung a huge bell called Great Tom. The tradition of tolling the bell 101 times (once for each scholar) at the curfew time of 9.05pm continues to this day.
