About Stokesay

The village of Stokesay lies amid the soft rolling fields and wooded valley's of shropshire. The area is mostly agricultural, with old stone farmhouses flanked by peaceful meadows being grazed by sheep and cattle. Mellow houses and cottages are dotted here and there along narrow winding lanes that are often more suited to the horse and rider that passes by than to the vehicles of today.

In the village is Stokesay Castle, a superb, fortified manor house that dates 1280. This place is well worth a visit, very little here has changed, there are magnificent wooden beams and beautifully decorated woodwork. Across the moat is a church that was rebuilt during Cromwell's commonwealth, that followed the Civil War. The interior of the church contains furnishings and fittings from that period.

Stokesay, is close to Craven Arms and just a short distance away is the pretty town of Much Wenlock.
