About Kilve

The coastal village of Kilve sits below the lush landscape of the Quantock Hills. It is an area of crumbling cliffs and vast mud flats where sea-birds congregate. The springy turf above the cliffs forms part of the West Somerset Coastal Path joining Kilve to Minehead. From the path walkers enjoy good views of Kilve Beach, the sea beyond and rolling Somerset countryside.

The village has a threadwork of delightful lanes studded with attractive cottages and houses, amongst these is The Hood Arms, a 17th-century coaching inn which still retains many historical features and exhudes the atmosphere of a by-gone age.

The region is much enjoyed by walkers and nature lovers, the cliffs conceal rare plants and wildlife whilst a little inland there is an intricate network of canalised rivers, streams and ditches, and drained areas reclaimed from the sea.

Kilve is within easy reach of Bridgewater, a flourishing town that in the 18th-century was a busy port.
