About Weston-super-Mare

Renowned for a fabulous sandy beach where the tide retreats for more than a mile, Weston-super-Mare has been a magnet for families for decades. It is a fun filled place which has flourished since the Victorian era when it was nothing more than a quiet little fishing village. Parts of the town still retain the charm and character of those long gone days which have now given way to a lively, vibrant resort town with new shopping malls, amusement arcades, cafe's, restaurants and night clubs.

The lure of the beach is all enduring; little children happily build castles in the sand whilst mum and dad contemplate a walk to the distant waters edge where gentle waves can lap weary feet! Believe me, after such a long trek, feet get very weary indeed. Away from the beach there is a whole host of enjoyable activities on offer - these include; horse riding from nearby stables, sea fishing trips, water skiing, sailing, an aquarium to visit as well as interesting museums, art galleries and pleasant gardens to stroll in.

In the Bristol Channel there are nature reserves that can be visited by boat. One, Steep Holm, belongs to a trust set up in memory of naturalist Kenneth Allsop and it is here that many rare and beautiful flowers flourish including wild peonies, which blossom in April and May.

Places to visit include: Steep Holm Nature Reserve, Flat Holm Nature Reserve, Brean Down, The Avon Gorge, Cheddar Caves and Wells for Wells Cathedral.
