About Alton

Alton Towers is now a renowned pleasure centre developed in the grounds of the once beautiful 19th-century building designed by Pugin, and which is now a well preserved ruin. Still to be seen in the magnificent grounds, is the conservatory that resembles an Oriental Palace. Of the quieter pleasures offered by the park, are model railways, paddling pools and a boating lake.

The village has many elegant stone buildings, and there is a circular lock-up and the romantic ruins of a 12th-century castle. There are several worthwhile shops that stock locally made porcelain.
