About Great Livermere

Quintessential Suffolk village mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086.

It is mostly noted for Ampton Water, home to a wealth of wildlife, and for its ancient church dedicated to St.Peter which has an interesting thatched roof covering its Norman nave. A small wooden turret surmounts the west tower and the church chancel appears to have been added at a later date. The church is surrounded by a grassed churchyard which has a number of ancient graves covered with headstones. Inside the church visitors can note a number of church relics including old wall paintings and a fascinating statue of St. Christopher. There is 18th century panelling, and interestingly one of the windows still has its old shutters.

Recently, a large cat is reported to have been seen in the region, this was said to have been similar to a Puma or a Panther.

There are two Livermore villages, Great Livermore is separated from Little Livermore by a distance of around three miles.
