About Holmfirth

This is a place that will forever be associated with the gentle, romantic comedy "Last of the Summer Wine" which has graced our TV screens for more than a quarter of a century. It was an inspired choice of location, for the charm of the region perfectly matches the warmth and humour of the characters, capturing the idyll of lazy summer days and the sort of amusement belonging to a long forgotten golden age.

The beautiful Holme Valley stretches down from the high Pennines along the River Holme towards Huddersfield, in West Yorkshire. Holmfirth is the main town, it offers visitors a delightful mixture of weavers cottages, Victorian hillside terraces with "top and bottom" houses, a rushing river and mills, all surrounded by breathtaking Pennine scenery.

For many the highlight of your visit will be a flip into the past with a trip around the "Summer Wine Trail" or a visit to the "Summer Wine Exhibition. A little bus takes visitor to see the most scenic locations for the show, and maybe, just maybe, you could bump into the cast and crew filming scenes for future episodes.

Holmfirth, and nearby villages have many pleasures in store, quaint shops, galleries, pubs with good ale and tasty food, and cafe's. Ivy's cafe, made famous by the TV show, was originally a paint shop, but fame has cast its hand and this is now a real cafe catering for the tourist trade.

The countryside around here is famous walking country where the air is bracing and you will never tire of the views.

Should you decide to spend a few days in the area you will be spoilt for choice for places to stay, these range from local hotels to friendly bed and breakfast homes, to caravan parks - no matter what you choose you can be assured of a hearty Yorkshire welcome from everyone - no wonder so many visitors choose to come back time and time again.
