Conduit house close to cowdray house ruins, Midhurst

A reliable supply of fresh water was needed for nearby Cowdray manor house, water was drawn from the stream close by, and flowed through pipes that were originally hollowed-out tree trunks and were later replaced by lead pipes. It was stored in the conduit house in a large tank and piped into smaller tanks in the kitchens and laundry.
