Whitelocks Bar in Turk's Head Yard, Off Briggate, Leeds
Whitelocks, Leeds' oldest pub was originally called the Turk's Head, after the yard where it's situated. The Whitelocks family bought and refurbished the bar in the late Victorian period and gave it their family name and much of the decorations, tiles and woodwork from that time are still in good order. This is another pub which is accessed through a narrow alleyway off Briggate. This situation probably came about due to Briggate being the site of the main market in Leeds in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
