Once an integral part of the industrial revolution, the Kennet and Avon Canal was a vital transport link. It is now a much used, but more peacefull, sustainable route for Narrow boats, cyclists and walkers. Image cannot be loaded

The Kennet and Avon Canal was completed in stages between 1790 and 1810. Like all the inland waterways of that time, it sourced water from rivers and followed the most navigable route through the countryside. In many cases the early railways also followed the same routes. Limpley Stoke is on the main line to Bath and Bristol which runs alongside the canal for much of its length Image cannot be loaded

The towpath of The Kennet and Avon Canal forms the majority of the off-road Sustrans Cycle Route, between Bradford-on-Avon and Bath. This then connects with the Bath to Bristol Cycle trail. Image cannot be loaded
