Erected in 1919 from military surplus, this local garage was run by Les Newbury, assisted by his brother Morris. Les trained as a Rolls Royce mechanic after doing his bit in the 'Great War' of 1914-18. He was married to Hilda who was a school teacher in the village for many years. According to the current owner Colin Dowson, who has lived in Maiden Bradley all his life, there was only half a dozen cars in the area. Mostly, back then, it was motorbike riding. Les would also be on call for local business jobs, including the farming community.
