About Yatton Keynell

The village is near Castle Combe and around 4 miles Northwest of Chippenham. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book as "Getone".

The village church of St Margaret's is unusually dedicated to St. Margaret of Antioch. It is said to have originally been built in the 13th century and given to the village by Sir William Keynell as a thank you for his safe return from the crusades. The church is Grade I listed and the tower dates to the 15th century.

The village also contains a pub 'The Bell' dating to the 17th century, a farmhouse dated to 1778 once known as "small pox farm", and also an unusual "milestone" in the wall of the rectory garden which shows its distance to Hyde Park Corner, London, as being 97 miles, and to Sodbury as 11 miles. This milestone is Grade II listed.
